Gold Prospecting Equipment

There is a lot of different equipment that can be utilized in a search for gold. Some of the most important of these are a gold dredge, a sluice box, a gold detector and a gold pan.

Gold Dredge

There are two different types of dredges commonly used when looking for gold, these are the surface dredge and an underwater dredge. The most popular of these is the surface dredge because of its practicality. The surface dredge floats on top of the water and uses suction to pull material off of the floor of a river or creek. This material is then filtered by a sluice box which is either on top of the water or sitting on the bank of the river or creek.
An underwater dredge is less practical since it has to be completely submerged to actually work. This type of dredge is used in the water to usually locate a larger amount of gold, then a surface dredge is used.

The technology of gold dredges has exponentially gotten better in recent years. Now people are making a living in old gold mine areas, reaching gold that was never available before.

Gold Pan

A gold pan is lightweight, easy to use and to bring with you in the most rugged of terrain. This is the most commonly used tool for finding gold yet today is becoming a little outdated with the other technologies that are out there.
